    Description

The determination of origin is the most important part in firearm attribution. The manufacturer and other
firearm features can be identified by examining markings stamped on the firearm. There are several types of markings – inscriptions, special proof marks and logos (including markings in the form of shapes). Soviet and Russian firearms often have a large variety of these markings, the meaning and designation of the majority of them have not been discovered yet. Even fewer compared to manufacturers markings, modern researchers know the markings of military repair facilities. Until recently, the meaning of these markings, and even their purpose, was unknown.
In the course of work on this publication, the author identified, systematized and deciphered a large quantity of the main firearms manufacturers markings, other markings used on firearms, as well as markings used by military repair facilities. The result of this study is presented as a guide. Sections of the guide are accompanied by a brief outline of the development of the relevant industry for the described period. The purpose of this part of the work is to convey to the reader the features of historical events, during which the arms industry and firearms repair systems had to work and develop, which directly influenced the changes of markings on firearms.Sections of the Guide are completed by a set of appendices that contain images of main factory markings and military repair facilities markings, photos of factory inscriptions and their elements, as well as samples of small arms produced in Russia and the USSR during the described period.
The source of the research is a collection of small arms and devices from the collection of the Military
History Museum of Artillery, Engineering and Signal Corps (St. Petersburg, Russia). The guide contains a large number of color photos and graphic illustrations, which make it possible to carry out the most correct attribution of the location and period of manufacture and repair of small arms.
The publication is addressed to researchers of the history of Russian and Soviet small arms, employees of military-technical, military-historical and regional museums, as well as collectors.
286 pages, hard cover, Russian text.
Hundreds photos and color illustrations, some illustrations include English translations.
Great reference for all gun collectors and historians.
