Description
For sale is this hard to find Starrett Tool Set, probably from the 1960's or 70's. (Some even think they made these into the 1980's. Eventually they changed to the red vinyl.)Sometimes referred to as "Apprentice Student Set" because they came with a Starrett Student Book, "Student Machinists".
This set has some "nicer" models included. Usually these sets come with just the lowest priced model. The Yankee Inside and Outside Calipers are 73B & 79B that have the split nut (AKA Spring Nut) instead of the solid nut models 73A & 79A. Much quicker to adjust.
Also, the center and 6" scale are both chromate plated models C391& C304R tempered steel.
I don't know if this is different, but when I cleaned the combinations square, (which had dried hardened oil in the threads.) I noticed how perfect condition they were. Usually the "pawl" on the end is dented or mushed a bit from clamping on the rule. But, both of these are oil hardened. The frames are non-hardened, which is correct for this set. They're also hard to find in this condition.
The book is in excellent condition with it's original paper jacket. Some small folds and tears to the paper jacket. Pages inside the book are clean and clear. It is the 10th Edition done in 1966 of the 1941 1st Edition. Period correct for this set.
Everything is clean and in working order with sharp tips and points.
Please review the photos magnified as they are part of the auction.
None of these tools or the case have any engravings added.
Very nice set.
These Tool Sets don't come to auction very often and I have no room for a discounted price based on what I paid.
