RARE IOOF INDEPENDENT ORDER OF ODD FELLOWS I.O.O.F IOOF KEY CHAIN FOB ENGRAVING BLANK
I.O.O.F - Independent Order of Odd Fellows. FLT - Friendship, Love and Truth
These date back to about 1890's. They were used as key tags, key fobs, identification tags, and engraving blanks. Their main purpose was to return lost keys and other important items back to their rightful owners. Back in the day, locksmiths would engrave these fobs with their customer's names / addresses. For a fee, the U.S. Post Office would return lost keys with these types of fobs on the keychain, to their owners. The U.S. post office continues this service even today.
Made out of nickel-silver also called German silver. Nickel silver is stronger and more expensive than brass. And, it doesn't tarnish as much as brass. Back then manufacturers chose nickel-silver over brass for higher quality items.
These look gorgeous and resemble sterling silver.
If you're reading this ad you already know how rare these fobs are. The fact they are blank and not engraved make them even rarer.
