Lucca was a truly international singer. From humble Viennese Jewish roots, he first teachers were Otto Uschmann and Richard Lewy and whose talent was first recognized by Giacomo Meyerbeer who assisted with her opera debut at the Berlin Hofoper. She went on to a meteoric career including a prima donna war in Berlin which led to her coming to America to escape the drama. She divorced one baron and married another whilst there! She also ran an opera company with American dramatic soprano Clara Louise Kellogg in the United States. A legend at the Vienna Hofoper, she sung there regularly after she returned until her retirement in 1889.
