The MNB-1 is modeled after the WWII Mosin Nagant Russian-made rifle silencer BRAMIT for their snipers.
A Muzzle Brake/Compensator is the single most effective way to reduce Recoil and Muzzle Rise. The best type of brake is the one that screws onto the end of the barrel, however, your barrel is permanently scarred and if not properly cared for, the threads will dissolve due to the different metals used to make these barrels.
There are muzzle brakes on the market for the M44, etc., but they use several different types of clamps and screws to secure them to the barrel.  This causes a problem in a short time with the screws bending, braking or just falling out and the muzzle brake blowing off down range. The MNB-1 DOES NOT have this problem (it locks in place), plus you can remove it (no tools) so your rifle can fit back in its case. It looks simple enough (and familiar), but I assure you that a lot of Engineering and Expert Tig Welding has gone into making the MNB-1. To my knowledge, there is nothing currently on the market for the 7.62 X 54R Mosin Nagant 91/30, except for the screw-on muzzle brakes. Every MNB-1 is test fired to ensure proper fit and reaction prior to having the finish applied.
Just like your rifle, the MNB-1 needs to be properly cleaned (all ports) after shooting. The MNB-1 has a rich black matte finish. Since the barrels were all a little different, the MNB-1 has been sized on four different barrels. A semi-snug fit is normal and recommended. The rifle in the pictures is not included with the MNB-1. Pictures shown are general in nature.
How does a Muzzle Brake/Compensator work (THEORY)?
Think of the air around Muzzle Brake/Compensator as a wall. When fired, gases push the bullet up the barrel. When these gases reach the two top ports on the side, they expel energy pushing (against the wall) the barrel down. When the gases reach the four angled top ports, they center (pushing against the wall) the barrel. When the gases reach the final two large openings at the top, they decrease the sound down range by sending most of that energy right and left not straight ahead (again, pushing against the wall). As all of this is happening, your rifle is being pushed backward (you are now the wall) in a controlled manor, thus producing a reduced and more comfortable kick. Also, along with all these gases being expelled through all these ports is gunpowder residue and fire, that would be normally be sent down range. Be aware of your surroundings, you could start a fire. You will find the noise level around your rifle to be considerably louder (less than normal down range), so wear good ear and eye protection. People around you could also be affected. Advise them to protect themselves.
